Printing From a Mac at IGPP
Discription
This will walk you through the steps for setting up your Mac for printing at IGPP. You will now be required to enter your AD user credentials to proceed with printing. Document and poster printing is funded by Scripps/IGPP IT, and is exclusive for IGPP affiliates only.
NOTE: This is being implemented on the plotter first and will soon be rolled out to all IGPP printers in the coming weeks.
Fees
Standard print job (8.5x11) - Free to IGPP affiliates
Poster printing - $20 PER PRINT. Please make sure that all edits and sizing are final before sending your print job to the plotter. Reprints will be an additional $20 moving forward.
PLEASE USE THE SIGN IN SHEET LOCATED ON THE PLOTTER AND CLEARLY PRINT YOUR NAME, PI’S NAME, AND PROJECT AND TASK NUMBER!
Steps
From the Finder window, navigate to Go -> Connect to Server
In the Connect to Server window, enter the following address, and click Connect.
smb://sioprint.ucsd.edu/PrinterInstallersMacEnter your AD username and password. MAKE SURE TO CHECK “REMEMBER THIS PASSWORD IN MY KEYCHAIN”
Navigate to the IGPP folder and double-click on the igpp.app icon to download the printer driver.
Make sure to drag the .pkg installer to your desktop before running the installer. If you do not drag it to your desktop first, you will encounter an error.
At the end of software installation, some versions of macOS MIGHT display the "System Extension Blocked" message. If so, click Open Security Preferences, then Allow the "HP Inc" extension.
(Skip this step if you are installing this driver for plotter, scott.ucsd.edu, located in the barnyard)
Once the printer software is installed, navigate back to the Finder window with the list of printers, double-click on the printer name to add the printer.
The installation process is done when you see this message. Continue to step 9.
You can verify that the printer is installed by navigating to Systems Settings > Printers and Scanners > the plotter will show up as “sio-igpp-plotter”.
If you see the "Printer Software Not Found" message, click OK. Complete the printer software install instructions from steps 5-6 above.
The first time you print, open the print queue and ensure that the printer/plotter you are printing to is selected. You will see your print job with the message “Hold for Authentication”. Click the lock on the right-hand corner as shown below.
You will then be prompted to enter your AD username and Password. Be sure to check “Remember this password in my keychain” to save the password to prevent this pop-up in the future.
Your document should print without issue once you enter the correct AD credentials.
