Microsoft Office - Licensing issue

Problem

When opening Microsoft Office, you encounter a View Only licensing issue such as the one below:

“View Only Your account username@ucsd.edu doesn’t allow editing on a Mac. To learn more, contact your admin about your Office plan.”


Solution

This could be related to corrupt library files in your home directory.  Please delete the following folders in your home directory to resolve the issue.


Delete the following folders in ~/Library/Group Containers: 

  1. In Finder, press COMMAND +Shift+g.
  2. In the window that opens, enter ~/Library/Group Containers and then click Go.
  3.  Select the following folders if present, and Move to Trash.

  4. Empty trash before launching Office apps.
