Mac OS Keychain and Login issues

If Login password was not changed using System Preferences > Users & Groups or System Preferences > Security & Privacy, a user's login password and their Keychain password may be out of sync.  To see if this is the case, follow the instruction below to see if your login keychain shows an unlocked icon:


Step-by-step guide


  1. Go to Finder > Applications > Utilities > double click Keychain Access.app
  2. Check to see if the lock icon next to "login" is showing as unlocked. If it shows as locked proceed to next step.  
  3. Right click the lock icon next to "login" and select "Change Password for Keychain "login""
  4. Now try previously used passwords and update it to your current login password in order to preserve previous Keychain password entries.
