The following steps will help you set up Code42 CrashPlan Cloud backup on your computer at IGPP. CrashPlan   Code42 is an application that backs up your user data. To set up CrashPlan Code42 you will 'll need to know your your UCSD Active Directory (AD) account username, username and password, and and submit a help request for a CrashPlan Code42 account.  


Note: You You may set up CrashPlan Code42 with your account for up to 4 computers that are used by you. Once downloaded, use the steps and server address in this wiki to help complete the setup.

Code42 Client


  1. Go to smb://igppsoftware.ucsd.edu/guest/Code42 to download the current Code42 client (must be connected to VPN). **NOTE** If you're using an M1 Mac, make sure you use the installer with "M1" in the installer name. For Intel Mac, mare sure you use the installer with "Intel" in the installer name. 
  2. Select desired OS folder on the left navigation area
  3. Follow the installation steps below.


Installation Steps

  1. Double click on the Code42CrashPlan.dmg file you just downloaded to mount the installation drive.
  2. Open the mounted drive (seen below in the upper right hand corner) to bring up a window with the installation file.
  3. If you have any other previous version of Code42 installed, run the Uninstall first.  Otherwise click Install Code42 CrashPlan and go through the installation process.




CrashPlan Setup

Under Finder go to Go > Applications and launch Code42 (CrashPlan).

If you have a laptop be sure the power cable is plugged-in to allow the backup process to run.  If you have FileVault2 full disk encryption enabled make sure you have login to your disk after a reboot to permit the backup of your disk.  Check back the following day to make sure your backup was completed.

Verify a file is set to be backed up

You can verify that a file is set to be backed up by doing the following:

Open the Code42 application (/Applications/Code42)

Also Note: By default, the checkmark does not necessarily indicate that the entire contents of a folder are backed up.


Verify files are being backed up

The backup of your selected files is complete if there are green checkmarks by both backup servers in the main window.
