The following steps will help you set up CrashPlan PROe on your computer. CrashPlan PROe is an application that backs up your data. To set up CrashPlan you will need to know your UCSD Active Directory (AD) account username, password, and submit a help request requesting a CrashPlan account.
Once you have received confirmation of your CrashPlan account from the IGPP Help Desk:

Note: You may set up CrashPlan PROe with your account on multiple computers that are used only by you. The following steps are written with Mac OS in mind. If you are working on a different OS, the following steps should be guidelines for setting up CrashPlan PROe on your computer. Use the steps that apply to your OS analogous to the steps below.   • Download CrashPlan client
  • Installing CrashPlan
  • CrashPlan account setup
  • Disable Chronosync (For those using Chronosync)
  • Verify a File is set to be backed up
  • Verify files are being backed up

Download CrashPlan Client

  1. Go to http://www.crashplan.com/enterprise/support/doku.php/installers to download the current CrashPlan PROe client (the current version we are using is 3.6.5 PROe Client).
  2. Scroll down to the link that correlates with our current version (e.g., "3.6.x CrashPlan App"). Under this, click on the link that matches your operating system (e.g., "Mac").
  3. Follow the installation steps below.

Installation Steps

  1. Double click on the CrashPlanPROe_"latest version"_Mac.dmg file you just downloaded to mount the installation drive.
  2. Open the mounted drive (seen below in the upper right hand corner) to bring up a window with the installation file.
    • Click Install CrashPlanPROe to begin the installation process.



  3. Click Continue



  4. Read the License Agreement and then click Continue. Click Agree when the dialogue box appear.



  5. Click Install to begin the installation process.

CrashPlan Account Setup


  1. Under Finder go to Go > Applications and launch CrashPlan.
  2. Click on "Existing Account" and enter your UCSD AD account credential.
  3. PROe Server Address is "igppbackup.ucsd.edu"

    • The backup will begin once you have successfully logged in.

Disable Chronosync

If you are using our legacy backup software, please make sure to disable it.

  • Click on the Chronosync icon on the top right corner of your screen. Click on "Suspend Scheduler".

Verify a file is set to be backed up

You can verify that a file is set to be backed up by doing the following:

  1. Open the CrashPlan application (/Applications/CrashPlan)



  2. Select the Backup tab.
  3. Click the "Change" button.



  4. Any files and directories with a check in the box next to them are being backed up by CrashPlan.



  5. Note that by default, though checked files are backed up, the checkmark does not necessarily indicate that the entire contents of a folder are backed up.

Verify files are being backed up


You can verify that a file is being backed up by doing the following:

  1. Open the CrashPlan application (/Applications/CrashPlan)



  2. Select the Restore tab.



  3. These are the listing of backed up files.
