"Remember Me" Not Working for Duo Two-Step
Problem
Duo two-step "remember me" feature is not working on your web browser. You may be receiving an error message when you try to select "Remember me for 7 days" or may be receiving the two-step login prompt repeatedly, despite selecting this option.
Cause
The "Remember me" feature for Duo two-step login relies upon your web browser's saved cookies. If you have already selected the "Remember me for 7 days" option on you web browser, but still keep getting prompted to perform two-step verification each time, this usually indicates that your web browser is blocking third-party cookies such as Duo Security.
Cookies are small files that save basic data that allows your browser to remember your preferences or activity on a website - Duo uses cookies to track when you have selected the remember me option. This means that "remember me" only remembers your specific web browser, not your computer, so if you are switching over to a different web browser or device, the remember me option will not carry over.
**NOTE: When you are prompted to approve a push from Duo while using Safari, it will not allow you to select the box to "Remember me for 7 days". This setting will only save while using Google Chrome. If you are experiencing this issue more frequently using Safari, switch over to Google Chrome and enable the steps below to aid with this solution.**
Solution
If the "remember me" feature is not working, follow these steps to add an exception to allow third-party cookies from Duo Security:
Chrome
- Open Chrome and select More (three vertical dots) in the top-right, then select Settings.
- Scroll down to the bottom and select Advanced.
- Locate the "Privacy and security" section and select Content settings > Cookies.
- Next to Allow, select Add.
- Enter the following: [*.]duosecurity.com
- Click Add.
- You may need to restart your browser for changes to take effect.
Firefox
- Open Chrome and select Menu (three horizontal lines) in the top-right, then select Preferences.
- Select Privacy & Security tab.
- In the "Cookies and Site Data" section, click Manage Permissions...
- Enter the following: https://duosecurity.com
- Select Allow, then Save Changes.
- You may need to restart your browser for changes to take effect.
Safari
Safari does not have an option to add individual exceptions for sites. You will need to enable third-party cookies on Safari to allow Duo Security to remember your two-step login:
- Select the Safari drop-down menu from the top menu bar.
- Select Preferences...
- Click Privacy tab.
- Make sure that "Block all cookies" is unchecked or set to Never.
- You may need to restart your browser for changes to take effect.
- Safari 13.1 and later: You must also disable the Prevent cross-site tracking option.
If your browser is not listed, please consult your web browser's support pages for allowing third-party cookies.
