What to do if Your Home Directory is Over the Limit

If your home directory is over the limit you must delete the large files from both your home directory on your local machine and on the server.
Solution:
Local Machine:
- Find the files on your machine that are being backed up by Chronosync that are taking up large amounts of storage. To see a list of files that Chronosync backs up click here .
- Delete the files or move them to the "NOBACKUP" folder located in your home directory.
Server:
- Connect to csync.ucsd.edu.
- Authenticate by typing in your password to access the server.
- Mount your user on the server by selecting your user and clicking ok.
Note: Even if you deleted files from your local machine, it takes 30 days before they are deleted from the server. They are cached in ~/Archived\Items in case you need to recover them. As a result, you need to actively remove the files. Note: Even if you deleted files from your local machine, it takes 30 days before they are deleted from the server. Files will be located in the same spot on the server as they were on the local machine.
- Delete the same files you deleted in Step 4 from the "_Archived Items" folder.
- The files may take a while to delete from the server. Once the files have been deleted, disconnect from the server:
Alternative Method:
- You can SSH to any of the public lab machines and remove your files from your server home directory. Note VPN is required to SSH to these machines from off campus.
